What Freud mistook for her lack of civilization is woman’s lack of loyalty to civilization

Lillian Smith

Using the word Gen to refer to myself was the easiest way to travel the world–easy to say, easy to remember–, but my full name is Genoveva. This site has existed now for most of my life. It started when I was a teenager and I discovered a floppy disk filled with ASCII art which I decided to share with the world. Now, more than twenty years later, I'm a different person and this site is a different site. But I'm still a sucker for the ASCII.

I was born in Spain and lived around the world; currently living in Asturias–in the beautiful North of Spain–and searching for my place between the Cantabrian Sea and the Cantabrian Mountains. I spend my time doing art, thinking about politics, technology and climate, and learning about plants and fungi. I sometimes use my knowledge around mycology and forests to tell stories about possible futures.

I am also a programmer, currently working at the Wikimedia Foundation to narrow the knowledge gaps in Wikipedia for underrepresented languages and communities. Thanks to my job I get to think a lot about my other passions: language, the politics and philosophy of the software industry, and decoloniality.

I love music, writing, swimming in the cold ocean, and becoming friends with the seagulls.
